"Redirecting solar energy towards new biosynthetic pathways:
Microsomal cytochromes P450 expressed in plant chloroplasts"
The biotechnological use of microsomal cytochromes P450 is typically limited by insufficient electron supply. This project explores how photosynthesis can support the reactions of cytochromes P450s in plant chloroplasts by direct interaction
between the photosynthetic machinery and cytochromes P450, thereby creating novel routes of electron transfer. Light-dependent activities of two microsomal cytochromes P450 expressed in plant chloroplasts are shown to occur both in vitro and in vivo, highlighting the potential of integrating the photosynthetic toolbox in synthetic biology.
