In 2018 PharMARSy aimed to find a novel way to produce medicine anywhere; also in space. Their project is based on a protein production system that uses the bacterial injectisome as a molecular syringe to inject newly made protein through a biomimetic membrane, i.e. production and purification of the protein - all in one.
