Stand Alone BLAST from NCBI allows searching custom databases that you create. These can be a transcriptome set (nucleotide) with maybe a million reads or a curated set of protein sequences of your own design. I have a 1kP set pf P450s with 190,000 sequences that you can use. This tool can be used on your laptop offline, no need to connect by the internet to NCBI or other large data banks. The other nice feature of this tool is batch BLAST searching. I have run over 100,000 sequences against about 20,000 sequences on my laptop. The goal of the workshop is 1) to get the software installed and working on your laptops, 2) learn how to format your own FASTA file of sequences to make a searchable database, 3) learn how to do single and batch blast searches. (A PowerPoint tutorial will be provided) Please try to download and install the NCBI Blast software before the class if possible.

NB! We need to know how many are attending the workshop, so please let us know by sending an e-mail to Anne: abm@plen.ku.dk if you are attending.
