UNIK Synthetic Biology Summer School 2011

Reconstitution of Membrane Proteins: Towards Synthetic Biology

University of Copenhagen, June 20-24, 2011

The UNIK Synthetic Biology-project at University of Copenhagen is offering an intensive summer course for PhD students and Post docs. This year's course focuses on the scientific possibilities, experimental platforms and challenges related to the applications of membrane proteins in synthetic biology. Internationally leading scientists will be the core lecturers at the course, which will cover the reconstitution of membrane proteins in amphipols, nanodiscs and vesicles, respectively. The scientific possibilities of the platforms will be discussed in relation to structural and functional studies of membrane proteins. The course will feature a combination of lectures, tutorials, panel discussions, participant presentations and networking.

Key lecturers:
Steven Sligar (US) - Using Nanodiscs's as platform for investigating membrane proteins
Jean-Luc Popot (F) - Using Amphipol's as platform for investigating membrane proteins
Bert Poolman (NL) - Using Vesicles as platform for investigating membrane proteins

The course takes place from June 20-24, 2011 at LIFE, the Faculty of Life Sciences, Copenhagen University. The workload of the course corresponds to 3 ECTS points and the price of the course is 200€to cover meals and social activities.

To apply for the course: Write a summery of your PhD/Post doc project plus a short motivation passage explaining your interest in the course (max 20 lines). Deadline is May 22nd 2011 at noon. Notification of acceptance will be given May 25th 2011.
