Synthetic biology is a strategic research area at the University of Copenhagen. It was established in 2009 with an elite grant, UNIK (Investment Capital for University Research) of 120 million DKK from the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

What is Synthetic Biology?

Synthetic biology is about understanding how biological systems are organised and thereby gaining insight into how to build similar systems by combining functional biological molecules into new groups.
