Center for Synthetic Biology Yearly Meeting 2013

The Center's yearly meeting took place on the 5th and 6th of March in the exotic surroundings of the Copenhagen Zoo! It was an excellent opportunity to exchange scientific experiences and ideas across the disciplines present in the center.

A Day of Interdisciplinarity, Science and Socializing

The meeting began with a visual representation of the Center's interdisciplinarity, called the 'Synbio String'. In a task requiring a lot of teamwork and innovative thinking, meeting participants were asked to connect to their 2 closest interdisciplinary collaborators using pieces of string.

The Center's Steering Group (yellow) and Research Committee (green) begin the connections.

Followed by Professors (blue), Postdocs and PhD students (pink), other students (red), lab technicians (purple) and advisory board members (black).

Representatives from each of the Center's research groups shared an overview of their work since the establishment of the Center, as well as a more in depth discussion of their current research projects.

Sune Holm (Assistant Professor Philosophy and bio-ethisist) and Maja Horst (Head of Department of Media, Cognition and Communication) enjoy lunch with their natural science colleagues.

Besides updates on the science conducted within Center for Synthetic Biology in the recent year, the meeting included a communication and ethics session based on the recent ethics workgroup meetings on February 18-20th.

Participants enjoyed an informative and scientific talk about the recently built Arctic Circle polar bear enclosure at the Copenhagen Zoo.

Discussions continued over an arctic themed dinner in the Arctic Circle enclosure.
